Foreign Students Work Permit

1. According to Article 50, Item 1 of the Employment Service Act and the Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers, foreign students must first apply for and obtain a personal work permit letter to work in Taiwan. If student fail to apply for a work permit in accordance with the regulations and got employed to work for others, he/she will be fined from NT$30,000 up to NT$150,000. If the employer hires a foreigner who has not legally applied for a work permit, he/she will be fined from NT$150,000 to NT$750,000. 2. If an employer wants to hire a foreign student, he/she must check the original copy of the student's residence permit, student ID card, work permit letter, and check the basic information, length of stay, reason for stay, and work permit period (the maximum permit period is 12 months), and he/she also needs to take photos and keep them as certificates. It should also be noted that the working hours of foreign students are up to 20 hours per week, except during winter and summer vacations.
